The M.V. Dania reached her final destination in the year 2002. After weeks of preparation and cleaning, Buccaneer WrecksT sank the ship on the 27th October 2002. Almost simultaneously Barracudas, Moray Eels, thousands of glassfish and huge groupers, inhabited her. A new artificial Reef was created.
Diving on the wreck
In the mean time the artificial reef is four years old and exceeding all expectations it was inhabited by an incredible amount of creatures. As a result of strong currents and tidal movements the ship broke apart. It shapes now a wreck with excellent hiding places for Fishes, Crabs, Lobsters and Moray eels. The maximum depth of M.V. Dania is 30m and is accessible to all experienced divers. For spectacular night dives and specialty courses is the M.V. Dania a perfect place.
The history of M.V. Dania
M.V. Dania left 1965 her port in Hatlow, Norway to operate as a cargo ship, registered in Honduras, Central America. Her name was M.V. Rodriguez. 20 Years later she was shifted to her new destination in Africa. There the ship was modified to a cattle transporter and renamed. The regular route was between Mombasa, Mozambique, South Africa and Mauritius. After the laying 2001 the ship was taken over by Buccaneer WrecksT. A thorough clean up and a preparation for diving followed. The final inspection by the biologists of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) was the last step before she was sunk 1.5 km off the coast.
The Dania has over the time attracted a lot of species which do not appear at the reef.
